New Delhi : As hundreds of people gather at Jantar Mantar every day to support social activist Anna Hazare, who is on a fast-unto-death for a strong anti-graft law, eateries in the area in the heart of Delhi are making huge profits with sales of some shops jumping three-fold.
Jantar Mantar has been the centre of attraction since Hazare began his fast April 5 and the New Delhi Municipal Council-licensed eateries shops are doing brisk business.
Most of the eatery owners have increased the amount of food cooked everyday to meet the soaring demand.
“Lots of people are coming and my sales of rajma-chawal and paneer-chawal has tripled. I have hired two temporary cooks to meet the demand,” said Baba, who runs an eatery .
Several hawkers selling cigarettes and snacks have made a beeline for Jantar Mantar realising the opportunity for increased sales.
Mahesh, who sells pakoras, said: “Earlier I used to make Rs.800 but sales have now doubled and I have asked my wife to make extra stuff from tomorrow.”
