While the indefinite fast by an activist of the Orissa Jana Sammilani (OJS) in Bhubaneswar continued for the second day, several other activists Friday began a relay hunger strike to express solidarity with him.

People from all walks of life, including freedom fighters, former judges, social activists, editors, journalists and students and came to the site of the fast and took part in a sit-in demonstration.

“There was a spontaneous response to the protest,” OJS president Rabi Das, the organiser of the demonstration, told IANS.

The city also witnessed separate demonstrations and rallies in Hazare’s support. While political party Kalinga Sena took out a rally, a large number of activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) – that is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party – separately organized a sit-in demonstration.

Similar demonstrations, rallies and relay hunger strikes were also reported from other parts of the state.
