Cow-dung water sprayed in office on the retirement of SC officer

By TCN News,

Thiruvananthapuram: In a state that boasts of its high education levels and socio-political awareness, the office and car of a high level low-caste officer in government service was ‘purified’ spraying cow-dung water, on his retirement. The mean incident took place in the state capital of Kerala. The state Home Ministry has ordered an inquiry into the matter. The Human Rights Commission had ordered a probe last day itself.

The office and car of Mr AK Ramachandran (Scheduled Caste) were reportedly sprayed with cow-dung water upon his retirement (on March 31) as IG in the Registration Department. He reportedly complained the matter to the State Human Rights Commission, state Home Ministry, DGP and City Police Commissioner. The Human Rights Commission immediately ordered a probe by the Revenue Secretary and asked him to submit a report by May 7, according to reports. Meanwhile, the Special Branch has reportedly begun investigation based on news reports.

Home Secretary K Jayakumar has given the charge of investigation to ADGP Mahesh Kumar Singla. Mr Jayakumar said that what happened was a serious matter. ADGP Singla was given the responsibility as he is in charge of investigating crimes and attacks against Scheduled Castes and Schedules Tribes, he said.

Meanwhile, reports also suggest of efforts to portray the complaint as a cooked-up one. The Joint IG of Registration Department who is in charge of IG reportedly denied any such act in the office. It is said that many members of an organisation supporting the ruling parties are involved in the issue, and so they are trying to erase off the matter. They reportedly said that Mr Ramachandran came up with such a complaint because of his grudge with some others in the office. This is a plot to turn Dalit organizations against the employees, they reportedly accused.
