Tension gripped Beesalpur town when some groups of Hindus and Muslims resorted to stone throwing and attacked each other.

“It all started following an argument between two youths standing in a line for LPG cylinders. It led to a clash when people supported them on both sides,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitendra Vijay told reporters in Pilibhit, some 250 km from Lucknow.

The situation is now well under control, he added.
