Yasmeen Abrar is the new acting Chairperson of National Commission for Women

New Delhi: a member of NCW since 2005, Yasmeen Abrar was made acting chairperson on the completion of tenure of Dr. Girija Vyas.

Mrs. Yasmeen Abrar will hold office of the Chairperson till the vacancy is filled by a fresh nomination. Dr. Girija Vyas completed her second three-year term as Chairperson on April 9th.

Mrs. Abrar is also on her second-term as member of NCW and her term expires on July 15th, 2011.




Mrs. Yasmeen Abrar has been to hajj on government expense.

She comes from a political family of Rajasthan and said to be close to the Gandhi family. She is the wife of Late Dr. Abrar Ahmad, former Union Minister of State for Finance and Parliamenty Affairs from 1993-1994. She represented Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha from 1998-2003.

Born on July 26th, 1957, she has M.Phil in Political Science from Rajasthan University.
