New Delhi: More than 48% of the scholarships granted during 2010-11 under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme of the Ministry of Minority Affairs went to girl students, far more than the sanctioned share of 30% for girls in the minority scholarship schemes. In 2010-11, 44.21 lakh pre-matric scholarships were distributed as against the target of 20 lakh. Of these, 48.15% was bagged by girl students.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs has achieved a big success in the implementation of its Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme for students belonging to minority communities from class I to class X. This scheme was started in 2008-09 and a cumulative total of 66.63 lakh scholarships have been awarded till 31st March 2011.
The target for 2011-12 is 27 lakh scholarships under the Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme.
Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme is one of the three scholarship schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs included under the Prime Minister’s New 15 Point Programme for the Welfare of Minorities.
