Talking to reporters, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar alleged that the government was going ahead with free trade agreements without discussing them even in the cabinet.

“We demand introduction of a legislation to make ratification of international treaties subjected to parliament approval,” Javadekar said.

“Only one committee, TERC (Trade and Economic Relations Committee) is taking decisions, it is not even being discussed in the cabinet,” he said.

The party demanded that the FTA with EU, which is slated to be signed, should not be finalised without a discussion in parliament.

“We demand a comprehensive debate in parliament on all FTAs entered and being negotiated, and an all party meeting to discuss FTAs,” he added.
