Agra monuments generate nearly Rs.4 crore in one month

New Delhi: The centrally protected monuments of Agra have generated a revenue of nearly Rs.4 crore in January alone from the entrance tickets. Half of this amount came from the Taj Mahal, an official statement said Monday.

According to the statement, the monuments – the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, Akbar’s tomb, Mariam’s tomb, Itimad-ud-Daulah, Ram Bagh and Mehtab Bagh – generated a revenue of Rs.3,76,65,430 in January 2011.

The Taj, the eternal monument to love, remained the most popular for tourists, generating a total of Rs.2,02,50,630 in revenue from entry tickets, the statement said.

In 2010, the total revenue generated from the monuments was Rs.43,46,82,110 while in 2009 the earnings stood at Rs.29,37,62,295 and in 2008 at Rs.26,08,88,310.

According to the statement, the revenue is deposited in the consolidated fund of the government of India.
