Kolkata : Hitting out at union Home Minister P. Chidambaram for terming West Bengal as the worst governed state, the ruling Left Front Monday said the minister was “uttering lies” as part of the poll campaign.
“Election is a great problem. Many people say many things during elections as they have to say such kind of things to gather votes,” said Left Front chairman Biman Bose while addressing media persons in Kolkata. Other Left leaders also were present.
“If you just look into a simple incident that Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who doesn’t have any experience of rural life and livelihood, said that villages of West Bengal are lagging behind other villages of India. The prime minister said that rural development of Bengal is lagging behind other states,” Bose said.
“But there is a strange coincidence that prime minister himself yesterday gave fourth prize to West Bengal government for rural development. But as we all know that election is a big issue so they had to tell lies, so they have uttered lies during their election campaign,” Bose said.
Bose also took a dig at Chidambaram for criticising the state’s law and order situation.
“Chidambaram stays in New Delhi. I would like to ask him: is the law and order condition of Bengal worse than Delhi? I want to ask him: is West Bengal only having debt? What about other states like Maharashtra? Are other states having pomp and grandeur and our state is only having debt? It is an election oriented speech,” said Bose.
Describing West Bengal as the country’s worst governed state, Chidambaram Monday claimed peace will be restored once Congress-Trinamool Congress government is formed after the assembly elections in the state.
“It is among the poorest governed states in the country. Our immediate concern is law and order,” said Chidambaram.
