Kolkata : Some of those who wrote the US diplomatic cables accessed by WikiLeaks had apologised privately for the embarrassment they had caused, union Home Minister P. Chidambaram said here Monday.
“Private apologies have been offered by some of those writers for the embarrassment which the cables have caused. But I am not going to name them,” Chidambaram told mediapersons.
He was responding to a query on West Bengal’s ruling Left Front chairman Biman Bose quoting the leaked cables to allege that the US wanted the Congress and the Trinamool Congress to come together.
“It surprises me that any one should attempt to dignify these cables,” Chidambaram said.
“… The WikiLeaks cables are not agreed minutes of the meeting. It is one person’s understanding of what happened. And many of the authors have poor understanding.
We should reject those cables,” he said.
The minister reiterated his earlier stand that he did not wished to dignify the WikiLeaks cables.
