BJP upset at PM’s attack

New Delhi : Terming as “totally unnecessary” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s comment about the opposition having skeletons in its cupboard, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday said it would raise in the Lok Sabha issues of corruption and price rise under rule 184, which entails voting.

Talking to mediapersons here, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said the prime minister’s “totally unprovoked” attack had spoiled the atmospherics between the opposition and the government ahead of the monsoon session of parliament that began Monday.

Sushma Swaraj, who heads the opposition in the Lok Sabha, said her party was consulted by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee regarding the business to be carried in parliament session.

She added she was not sure if the prime minister had been told about the cordial talks between the opposition and his cabinet colleagues.

She said to her utter surprise, the prime minister Sunday told mediapersons that the opposition had too many skeletons in its cupboard.

“It is ill-advised comment. A single sentence has spoilt the good atmospherics,” she said, and challenged the ruling United Progressive Alliance to use all its ammunition against the opposition.

Sushma Swaraj said the BJP had given notice in Lok Sabha for discussion on price rise under rule 184, which entails voting. She said constituents of the National Democratic Alliance will also give similar notice.

She said the party will also seek discussion on corruption under rule 184, while many other issues will be raised through calling attention motion.
