New Delhi : The Delhi government has drafted a bill making it mandatory to register marriages.
The Delhi cabinet Monday approved the Delhi Marriage Registration Bill in a meeting presided by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
According to a minister in the government, the decision has been taken in the wake of the Supreme Court direction to state governments to bring out a law to make registration of marriages compulsory.
He said: “The government will send the bill for approval to the union ministry.”
