Ramazan to start in North India from Tuesday

Lucknow/Patna: With the sighting of moon, the holy month of Ramadhan will start from Tuesday. Chand committees and religious organizations in Lucknow and Patna besides some other parts of the country announced Monday evening that Tuesday will be the first day of the month of Ramadhan 2011.

Secretary, Markazi Chand Committee, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahli stated that moon has been sighted and thus the Muslim will begin their fasting month of Ramadhan from Tuesday. Spokesperson, All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB), Maulana Yasoob Abbas also confirmed the sighting of moon thus begining of Ramdhan month from Tuesday.



Earlier, Maulana Farangi Mahli along with other members of Markazi Chand Committee sighted the moon using binoculars from the Aishbagh Eidgaah. Mufti Maulana Abu Tayyab Farangi Mahli confirmed the sighting of moon for Ramdhan month on 29 Shaban (Monday) as per Islamic calendar. Thus first fast for Ramdhan will be from Tuesday. Devotees thronged the mosques for offering special taraveeh namaz from Monday night. Former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in a message has extended his greetings to Muslim community for the month of Ramdhan.

Several religious organizations in Patna have also confirmed moon sighting and thus beginning of Ramadhan from Tuesday. Imarat Shariah, Idarah Shariah and Khanqah Rahmani Munger have announced commencement of Ramadhan from 2nd of August.
