90% seats reserved for locals in MP sports academies

Bhopal: To give fillip to sports in Madhya Pradesh 90 per cent seats will be reserved for state players in the academies run by the State Government.

Instructions to this effect was given by the state Chief Minister Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan here on Monday while reviewing the progress of the State’s Sports and Youth Welfare Department.

Mr. Chouhan said that the players of Madhya Pradesh built the image of State at national level. Now, the sports talents should shine at international level. For this, required resources and facilities should be provided to the players. As such he instructed the officials to reserve 90 percent seats for the players of State in sports academies.

It was decided at the meeting to open new 8 sports academies including three in Jabalpur, two each in Ujjain and Bhopal and one in Indore.

The Chief Minister Mr. Chouhan said that the collectors should review availability of sports facilities in their respective districts. Playground should be developed at each village. Besides, a Multipurpose Youth Commission should be constituted covering educational, training and employment related activities apart from sports and youth activities.

He said that the achievements of sports academies gained appreciation at national level. The children who can fare well in the games should be inducted in the academies. In compliance with his announcement, the Chief Minister sought progress of the construction of an international cricket stadium.

The Chief Minister Mr. Chouhan instructed the officials to hold meetings with the officials of construction agencies so as to complete the developmental works of sports. He asked to depute an appropriate officer to monitor quality of departmental works.

It was informed that academies have been opened for cycling, weightlifting and archery in Jabalpur, Malkham and gymnastic in Ujjain, athletics and swimming in Bhopal and table tennis academy has been set up in Indore. Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Mr. Tukojirao Puar, Chief Secretary Mr. Avani Vaish, Secretary Sports and Youth Welfare Mr. Ashok Shah, Additional Secretary Finance Mr. Satyanand, Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Vivek Agrawal and Director Sports and Youth Welfare Mr. Sanjay Choudhary were present at the meeting.
