Alfred McEwen of the University of Arizona in Tucson and his colleagues have reported the strongest evidence yet for flowing water on Mars, the journal said.

The evidence comes from extremely high-resolution images taken by a powerful camera called HiRISE aboard NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, which has been orbiting the planet for five years.

Scientists have previously found large deposits of ice at the Martian poles, as well as water vapour in the atmosphere. There’s also a wealth of evidence, such as ancient shorelines and river beds in Mars.

This is the first time scientists produced evidence that suggests existence of flowing water on the red planet.
