New Metro link to connect three corridors

By IANS,

New Delhi : Delhi Metro’s Kirti Nagar-Ashok Park Main link, to be opened soon, will connect three different corridors and not just reduce travel time for commuters, but also help them save money.

The 3.3-km link will connect Metro’s Line 1 between Dilshad Garden and Rithala, Line 3 between Dwarka and Noida and Line 5 between Inderlok and Mundka.

The Kirti Nagar station is on Line 3 and Ashok Park Main on Line 5.

“The travel time of commuters using these stretches will come down by almost 50 percent in many cases. For example, commuters travelling from Dwarka to any destination on Line 1 and 5 will be able to avail the interchange facilities at Kirti Nagar and Ashok Park Main and reach their destinations,” a Delhi Metro statement said Sunday.

At present, the commuters have to go to Rajiv Chowk and then take the Metro to Kashmere Gate to reach the same destinations, it said.

“The opening of this stretch will also help a lot in decongesting the busy Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate interchange stations as the commuters travelling between destinations on Lines 1, 3 and 5 won’t have to come to these stations to change trains,” the statement said.

The link will also cut down the travel fare.

“Due to this link, the cost of travel will come down by more than 50 percent in some instances. For example, the present fare between Punjabi Bagh and Kirti Nagar is Rs.21 which will come down to Rs.10 after the opening of this link,” it added.
