New Delhi : Taking a cue from the suspension of rebel police officer Sanjeev Bhatt, the Congress Tuesday said that justice could not be done to Gujarat riot victims until all riot-related cases are shifted out of the state.
Talking to reporters in the national capital, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari accused the Gujarat government of manipulation.
“All riot-related cases should be transferred out of the state (Gujarat) because only cases out of the influence of Gujarat government have fructified in results,” Tewari said.
Indicating that none other than the chief minister himself was responsible for it, Tewari said, “We hope victimisation of Sanjiv Bhatt, carried out on indications from highest elected office in Gujarat, should stop.”
Sanjiv Bhatt, the Gujarat cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer who shot into limelight after claims of being present at a meeting of chief minister Narendra Modi on the night after the Godhra train carnage in 2002, was suspended from service late on Monday night. A signal for retributory action had been given at this meet, he told the Supreme Court in an affidavit.
