A federal cabinet meeting Wednesday, chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, was told that during last three years over 3,000 MW of power was added to the system but the demand during this period had also increased and consequently the problem of electricity cuts could not be overcome, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan later said.

Awan said Gilani, therefore, directed a high-powered ministerial committee to meet on day-to-day basis and come up with out-of-box proposals to resolve the problem of power outages, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

The minister said Gilani apprised the cabinet about the concern of the government about the energy situation in the country.
