Speaking in the assembly, Jayalalithaa said the central government was not allowing the state to thrive but she would to provide welfare measures to the people.

She said the central government had been cutting down the allocation of kerosene to the state from June — a month after she took power.

She said the government had brought this to the notice of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, both through a letter and personally.

When A. Soundararajan of Communist Party of India (Marxist) asked the state government to allocate more funds for various schemes, Jayalalithaa said that is what Tamil Nadu wants to do.

She charged the centre with encroaching on the state’s revenue sources.
Jayalalithaa added the state government’s hands were tied due to financial crunch.
