Bhubaneswar : Three Maoists, including two women, were held in Orissa Friday, while trying to escape with about Rs.76 lakh cash and weapons, police said.
The rebels were arrested at Rourkela in district Sundergarh, about 500 km from here while trying to move out of the city in a vehicle, police officer Yashwant Jethwa told IANS.
A pistol, some live bullets and few mobile phones were seized from them, Jethwa said.
The man was identified as 25-year-old Prasanta alias Shiv Munda. He was a member of the Dakshin Chhota Nagpur Zonal Committee of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), operating in the border area of Orissa and Jharkhand.
Prasanta was wanted in at least 15 cases of murder, rioting, arson, loot and extortion, the police said.
The women cadres were also alleged to be involved in several crimes.
