New Delhi : Anti-corruption campaigner Anna Hazare has accepted 20 out of the 22 terms set by Delhi Police for allowing his fast here from Aug 16, said his team member Kiran Bedi Saturday, blaming the government for the curbs.
Hazare will sit on indefinite hunger strike against the government Lokpal bill.
Responding to Delhi Police’s 22 restrictions for the fast, Bedi said: “This is not a Delhi Police draft.”
The former police officer said that the government gave directions to police to put restrictions on Hazare’s fast and was making them a scapegoat.
Police have allowed Team Anna to hold the protest for just three days at a park closer to the Firoz Shah Kotla cricket ground in central Delhi and also asked them to restrict the crowd to 4,000-5,000.
Other restrictions include not to make provocative speeches and limit the use of loudspeakers.
Team Anna, which refused to give an undertaking on restricting the crowd and a time frame of the fast, said that a police force which was capable of handling functions like the Independence Day, the Republic Day and political rallies could also handle a protest by Hazare.
Bedi said that Delhi Police were one of the most experienced force in the country and had the maximum number of personnel to handle any kind of demonstration and protest.
Soon after the police order imposing restrictions on Hazare’s fast, he Friday night shot off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, terming the police move “undemocratic”.
