Karachi firing claims eight lives

Islamabad : At least eight people were killed in two separate firing incidents in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi Wednesday, Xinhua reported.

In Karachi’s Bhempura area, a fierce shootout broke out in the evening following five hand grenade blasts.

Three people, including two men and a girl, were killed and a dozen others injured. Five of the injured were stated to be in critical condition.

Local media reported it was a clash between two unknown local groups.

Later, a regional leader of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party was killed along with four others at a hotel in the city’s Kharadar area when four men riding two motorcycles opened fired at them and fled, said local media reports.

Since July, over 350 people have reportedly been killed in such clashes, mostly between the two old rivals in the city, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Awami National Party (ANP).
