Although no formal traffic advisory has been issued, the traffic police asked the public to avoid roads near Tihar Jail, Rajghat, India Gate and the Ramlila Ground.

“We are updating our traffic advisories on Facebook,” a traffic helpline official said.

The Delhi Traffic Police’s Facebook post says: “Kindly avoid all roads adjacent to Tihar Jail, including Lajwanti to Mayapuri Chowk road…”

Anna Hazare set off on a journey across the city in an open truck that wound its way slowly through massive, slogan-shouting crowds who held aloft the Indian tricolour.

“We will have enough deployment in central Delhi near the Ramlila Maidan to control any situation,” Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic), told IANS.
