New Delhi : It was an amusing sight to see a group of Americans waving the Indian tricolour at the Ramlila ground Friday, adding colour to the Anna Hazare wave.
Visiting India, the group of four from New York came to the ground after learning about Hazare’s campaign on television.
“This is perfectly fine as it is peaceful. Moreover, in a democracy one has the right to challenge the wrong policies of the government peacefully,” Greg Garrett told IANS.
His friend Mathew called the protest a noble idea.
“I think we need something like this back home (US) too,” he said, waving a tricolour.
It were the huge crowds that intrigued New Zealander Amy Smith. So she decided to visit the ground accompanied by her tour guide and two friends.
“This has proved that India is a successful democracy,” Smith told IANS, referring to the mass mobilization for a strong anti-corruption legislation.
Finnish journalist Tommi Nieninen felt that Hazare’s movement was long overdue as Indians were fed up with corruption.
“It’s good that people are pressurising the government. It was waiting to happen after the 2G and CWG (Commonwealth Games) scams,” he said.
He was referring to the financial irregularities involving the allocation of second generation spectrum and the conduct of the Commonwealth Games, which took place last year.
