Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will seek entry to the state assembly from the Bhawanipore constituency. The Trinamool Congress supremo is currently MP from Calcutta South Lok Sabha seat and has to get elected as MLA within six months.
In the assembly elections held in May, Banerjee was not a candidate as she had decided that if her Trinamool Congress wins then she will take over the post of the chief minister and get elected as MLA within six months.
“Yes, it is true that Mamata Banerjee will contest assembly election from Bhawanipore assembly seat,” Minister of State for Tourism and Trinamool leader Sultan Ahmed told IANS.
Currently Trinamool Congress state president and state Public Works Department Minister Subrata Bakshi represents the Bhawanipore assembly seat.
According to Ahmed, Bakshi is scheduled to resign as MLA and contest from the Calcutta South Lok Sabha constituency which will become vacant after Banerjee resigns.
