New Delhi : Apart from hundreds of policemen deployed at the Ramlila Ground for Anna Hazare’s security, there is a ring of India Against Corruption (IAC)volunteers around the 74-year-old activist, who is on a hunger strike for a more inclusive Lokpal Bill.
“We have a team of hundred volunteers who are managing Annaji’s security, while 200 others are placed for crowd management,” IAC member Sneha Kothawle said. “The human chain is at two levels from the main stage.”
Clad in black kurtas bearing IAC badges, the volunteers have been told to maintain strong vigil. “We were not given any special training,” commerce student Raghav Jatania said. “We were already in association with IAC.”
Some supporters, in their enthusiasm to meet Anna, have already tried to breach the security cordon. “We are prepared for all kinds of people,” another IAC volunteer said. “The supporters might be justified on their part, but we have to be concerned about Annaji’s security too.”
Hazare began his fast Tuesday when he was taken to Tihar Jail and later released. But he refused to move out and came out Friday after the Ramlila Ground had been adequately prepared.
