Kolkata : Six passengers were killed and 18 others were injured when an over-speeding bus overturned and then fell into a culvert in West Bengal’s Nadia district Saturday, police said.
The accident occurred when the driver, driving at breakneck speed, lost control of the vehicle on the pot-holed National Highway-34 near Bikrampur area.
“The bus overturned due to the high speed. Six passengers died on the spot,” said an officer of the local Nakashipara police station.
“The condition of the highway has become very bad due to the monsoon rains. A case of negligent driving has been lodged,” the officer said.
The driver was absconding.
