New Delhi : The Delhi High Court has directed Delhi Police to conduct an enquiry against two of its personnel accused by a 72-year-old widow of forcibly taking away her office key and Rs.15,000 from her possession earlier this year.
After taking note of Harmohinder Bhatia’s application, Justice Mukta Gupta in her order, passed Friday but made available Monday, directed the deputy commissioner of police, vigilance, to conduct an enquiry and submit a report in about two months.
“Conduct an enquiry and submit your report by Oct 19,” said Justice Gupta.
Bhatia approached the court seeking action against Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar Singh and Head Constable Samunder Singh, both posted in Naraina police station, in west Delhi.
The court also issued notice to the station house officer (SHO), directing him to file an affidavit in response to Bhatia’s plea for registration of a case of extortion against them.
Bhatia claimed that her husband had started the office on a rented premises in Naraina Industrial Area in 1977 and after his death in 2007, she had been running it.
She alleged that at the instance of H.R. Khosla, the owner of the premises, these policemen had entered her office and taken away Rs.15,000, which was kept as fees from a client, besides picking up some documents from the office drawer and cupboard.
Bhatia also alleged that the policemen had illegally detained her office peon and forcibly taken away his mobile phone as well as the office key from him.
“On enquiry, she was informed that her peon is detained in the police station in connection with a cheque bounce case against her son,” said her petition.
Bhatia further stated in her petition that the police had demanded money from her son, when he had contacted them for the release of her peon.
