Airtel pays Rs.1,177.5 crore licence, spectrum charges

New Delhi : Telecom giant Bharti Airtel became one of the largest contributor in terms of revenue through licence fees and spectrum usage charge to the government by paying Rs.1,177.5 crore during the quarter ended June 30, the telecom regulator said Wednesday.

The telecom operator paid Rs.422 crore towards spectrum charges and Rs.755 crore for license fees during the period under review.

Vodafone followed Airtel with a total of Rs.702 crore payment including Rs.234.48 crore towards spectrum charges and Rs.467.63 crore for licence fees during the quarter under review.

State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Sanchar Nigam Ltd (MTNL) together paid Rs.612 crore for spectrum charge and licence fees.

Idea Cellular paid the government Rs.498 crore, Tata Teleservices Rs.308 crore while Reliance Communications paid at Rs.263 crore towards towards spectrum charges and licence fees.
