Court questions school on widow’s plea

By IANS,

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Tuesday issued notice to the Delhi government and a private school following alleged denial to a widow’s son of his marks sheet and transfer certificate (TC) on account of non-payment of fees.

Justice Kailash Gambhir asked the Delhi government and Guru Harkrishan Public School, near India Gate in central Delhi, to reply by Sep 5.

The woman Rekha approached the court Aug 22, saying that she wanted her son Abhishek, a Class 7 student, to be transferred to a government school, but the private school did not issue him a marks sheet and TC.

Her counsel Ashok Agarwal said: “The school is insisting that the mother pay Rs.52,000 on account of fee arrears.”

In her petition, Rekha said she earns Rs.3,000 per month by stitching clothes and that the school had also disallowed her son to attend classes from April 1.

“She has not been in a position to afford the school fees and had been requesting the school to grant full fee concession to Abhishek till he completes Class 12. She has been running from pillar to post for grant of full fee concession, but did not succeed,” said Agarwal.
