Two arrested with Rs.1 lakh fake currency

Lucknow : Two people linked to a Nepal-based fake currency racket have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh with counterfeit Indian currency notes worth Rs.1 lakh, police said Wednesday.

Mohammad Aqil and Mohammad Rafiq, both aged around 25 years, were nabbed Tuesday from Gorakhnath area of Gorakhpur district following a joint operation by the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) and district police.

“Preliminary investigations reveal the two have been working for the Nepal-based racket for four years,” police inspector Aanand Shahi told reporters Wednesday in Gorakhpur, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“The duo used to supply fake currency notes to their clients in various states, including Bihar, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and the National Capital Region,” he added.

According to police, the two are residents of Delhi.
