Lima : An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale jolted northern Peru Wednesday, Xinhua reported.
There were no immediate reports of any casualties or damages.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake, which occurred at 1746 GMT, had its epicentre 560 km northeast of the capital Lima, 82.07 km north of Pucallpa city, in the Peruvian Amazon forest close to the Brazilian border.
The quake was 145.2 km deep, the preliminary report said.
