Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu made the remarks after the US recently released the Country Reports on Terrorism 2010, Xinhua reported.

“China is also a victim of terrorism, which is an international nuisance. China supports and actively participates in international anti-terrorism cooperation and has contributed greatly to the global fight against terrorism. The fight against the ‘East Turkestan’ terrorist forces is an important part of that,” Ma said.

“We oppose linking terrorism with a certain country, nationality or religion,” he said.

The spokesman pledged to continue cooperating with the US in the fight against terrorism based on the principle of equality and reciprocity, while stressing that China’s concern over the East Turkestan Islamic Movement should be fully respected.

“We oppose double standards,” he said.

The East Turkestan Islamic Movement is a separatist group in Xinjiang province in northwest China. The US State Department listed it as a terrorist organisation in 2002, according to independent think tank Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).
