Islamabad : Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has reiterated his country’s unconditional support to Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He made the comments during a meeting with visiting Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar in Beijing Wednesday.
She is on her first visit to China since assuming her office last month.
Wen said Khar’s decision to make her first official visit to China reflected her commitment to further strengthening the friendship between the two countries, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.
He said the time-tested and all-weather friendship between the two countries was founded on the common principles of peaceful co-existence and mutual respect.
Wen reiterated China’s unconditional support to Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also renewed China’s commitment to help Pakistan’s post-flood reconstruction efforts.
Wen reaffirmed China’s support for Pakistan’s efforts in preserving national stability and promoting social and economic development, reported Xinhua.
He called on the two sides to promote the sustainable development of the Pakistani economy and to expand cooperation in trade, investment and technology.
Khar said the Pakistan-China relationship was without parallel in the world of inter-state relations.
The two countries enjoyed complete convergence of interest on all bilateral issues as well as international issues of mutual importance, she added.
She thanked China for its assistance in helping Pakistan achieving its economic and development goals.
Khar also met her Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.
The two leaders had detailed discussions which covered the entire gamut of the bilateral relationship as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Khar said that her visit demonstrated the importance she attached to pushing forward the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.
The Chinese foreign minister described Pakistan-China friendship as an exemplary relationship of perfect trust and cooperation between two developing countries.
Foreign Minister Yang too reiterated China’s support for Pakistan’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The two foreign ministers vowed to work together to rid the region of terrorism and extremism.
