Metro stations near PM’s home back to normal

New Delhi : Normalcy returned Friday at the four Delhi Metro stations close to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s residence that had been shut the day before, an official said.

Of the four stations, Udyog Bhawan, Race Course and Jor Bagh on the Huda City Centre-Jahangirpuri corridor opened at 9 p.m. Thursday after remaining shut for around six hours, said a Delhi Metro spokesperson.

The Khan Market station, on the Central Secretariat-Badarpur stretch and in the vicinity of the prime minister’s residence was opened at around 7.30 p.m., added the spokesperson.

Hazare and fellow activist Arvind Kejriwal Thursday morning appealed to supporters for a peaceful protest in front of the prime minister’s residence at 7, Race Course Road from 5 p.m.

Dozens of protesters reached the prime minister’s residence in the afternoon and 50 of them were detained, police said.

Hazare’s supporters have been protesting in front of the prime minister’s house in batches since Wednesday. They have also staged demonstrations in front of the houses of several MPs.
