Man held in Lucknow with Rs.1 lakh in fake currency

Lucknow : A 29-year-old man from West Bengal has been arrested here with counterfeit Indian currency notes of the face value of Rs.1 lakh, police said Saturday.

Mohammad Abdul, 29, was held late Friday by Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad (UPATS) and the district police in Hussainganj area while he was on his way to hand over the fake notes to a client.

“He has been supplying fake notes in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and other states,” police inspector Akhilesh Kumar told reporters.

According to police, preliminary investigations reveal Kumar was linked to a Nepal-based racket involved in supplying of these notes to various parts of the country.
