Kolkata : West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Sunday said her party would set up a “students brigade” to render voluntary service for two years in cities and villages after which they will be given training and jobs.
“We will prepare a students brigade which will enlist young students and youth. Those who will enlist in this brigade will have to render voluntary services to the people in villages and cities for two years,” said Banerjee at the foundation day celebration of the students’ wing of the Trinamool Congress.
“After these members of the “students brigade’ pass out, they will be given training and we will create an employment bank for these students and secure their future,” she said.
“This brigade will form the base of development of Bengal. I will do the formalities for the brigade very soon. By the month of January we will create this brigade and will have a huge rally in Brigade Parade grounds,” said Banerjee.
Party general secretary Mukul Roy told IANS that the students brigade will come up very soon.
“We are currently looking into various aspects and formalities. We will create a new benchmark with this brigade,” he said.
Banerjee also assured the students of a world class educational infrastructure.
Taking a dig at the erstwhile Left Front government, she said: “We have done a lot in just 90 days what others could not do in 34 years. We already have created over two lakh jobs. 46,000 teachers are to be appointed soon along with 1,800 Santhali language teachers.”
She urged the students to be determined and dedicated and said the future of the state was secure. “Looking at you gives me the feeling that the future of West Bengal is bright.”
