New Delhi : The monsoon session of the Delhi assembly got off to a stormy start Monday as the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members demanded a discussion on the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report that indicted Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for alleged irregularities in certain Commonwealth Games (CWG) projects.
As the house convened at 2 p.m., the BJP members trooped to the well of the house demanding that Speaker Yoganand Shastri allow a discussion on the CAG report on the Commonwealth Games.
The speaker refused permission, and the BJP members continued shouting, forcing the house to be adjourned for 30 minutes.
As soon as it reassembled at 2.30 p.m., BJP members resumed their noisy protest.
The speaker adjourned the sitting again for another half hour.
When the house met the third time, BJP members protested the hike in power tariff in the national capital.
Shastri then adjourned the house for the day.
Slamming the BJP for not allowing the house to function, Dikshit said: “The CAG report cannot be discussed in the assembly as it is being examined by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of parliament.”
The Delhi assembly monsoon session will run till Sep 5.
