Farrukhabad (Uttar Pradesh) : An official of a “spiritual university” in this Uttar Pradesh district was Monday booked on charges of abducting a minor girl and holding her captive, police said.

A 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh’s Banda, who went missing Aug 23, was freed Sunday from a centre of the `Adhyatamik Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya’ controlled by Virendra Dixit.

“Virendra is absconding. After the girl managed to inform her parents about her whereabouts, we raided the centre of the university and rescued her,” police inspector K.R. Dohre told reporters in Farrukhabad, some 150 km from Lucknow.

“We came across other girls also during the raid. Investigations are on to ascertain whether Dixit is involved in a flesh trade or human trafficking,” he added.

Police are yet to establish the authenticity of the “spiritual university.”
