New Delhi : Baroda, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh registered fine wins in the Ranji Trophy Elite Division matches that concluded Friday.
Last year’s runners-up Baroda bowled Gujarat out for 123 to win their second match of the season. The visitors, chasing 365, could only last 47.3 overs at the Moti Bagh Stadium in Baroda. Left-arm medium pacer Gagandeep Singh did the maximum damage, taking five for 29 in 10.3 overs.
Baroda are second in Group B with 13 points from five games while Gujarat are sixth with seven points but have played a match less.
Tamil Nadu thrashed Bengal by 10 wickets at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Southern team needed a mere 32 runs in the fourth innings and Abhinav Mukund (25) and Murali Vijay (9) got them home with ease.
The hosts were on the backfoot ever since Tamil Nadu made 391 in the first innings. Bengal could only manage 176 and 246 in their two attempts.
Tamil Nadu top Group B with 14 points from four matches while Bengal languish at the bottom on five points.
At Bhubaneshwar, Karnataka beat Orissa by 139 runs. The home team folded up for 161 while chasing 301 at the East Coast Railway Sports Association ground.
Stuart Binny picked up his second five-wicket haul of the match, conceding only 49 in 12.4 overs.
Karnataka are leaders in Group A with 20 points from five matches. Orissa are at the bottom with just a point.
The match between Madhya Pradesh and Delhi went down to the wire with the home team crossing the line for a two-wicket win.
Madhya Pradesh, needing 59 runs before the day’s play with five wickets in hand, struggled to get to the victory target of 299. Parwinder Awana provided early breakthroughs for Delhi and brought excitement into the match. But Udit Birla (49) and Ishwar Pandey (14) hung on to ensure five points for Madhya Pradesh. Awana’s five wickets effort went in vain.
Madhya Pradesh moved to third place in Group B with 13 points from four matches while Delhi, who have played four, are fourth on 10.
