Six from Tripura killed in Kolkata hospital fire

Agartala : At least six patients, including two women, from Tripura were reported to have been killed in the devastating AMRI Hospital fire in Kolkata that claimed at least 81 lives, officials said here Friday.

An official of the state health department said all the six died due to asphyxia in the closed enclosures of the hospital. The dead included a relative of a Tripura minister.

“Altogether, 18 people from Tripura were admitted in the hospital till late Thursday. Exact number of dead and injured is not yet confirmed,” the official said.

Tripura Finance Minister Badal Choudhury flew to Kolkata while Health Minister Tapan Chakrabarty was to reach the city Saturday.

Many patients from various northeastern states, including Tripura, often go to Kolkata and other places for better treatment.
