With an eye on assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Congress leaders led a delegation of All India Madarsa Modernisation Teachers Association (AIMMTA) in a meeting with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Monday. The leaders urged the PM to consider the demands of the madarsa teachers who are living in penury.
The delegation comprised Congress general secretary and In-charge UP Affairs, Digvijay Singh, UP Congress Committee President, Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Congress Legislative Party Leader, Pramod Tiwari and members of AIMMTA including its UP Chief Muslim Raza Khan, Samiullah Shoib, Mohd Ahmed, Akbar Ali, Akhtar Kamal, Saleem Javed, Ibrahim Ansari and Parwaz.
During the meeting, Digvijay Singh pleaded with the PM Manmohan Singh that the demands of the madarsa teachers be fulfilled at the earliest. Dr Rita Bahuguna Joshi urged the PM for regularisation of the madrasa teachers. She apprised the PM that these madarsa teachers are working since 1993 but their salary payment is erratic. Dr Joshi urged that a provision be made in the budget so that their arrears can be cleared besides they can also get their payment regularly.
