In first speech, AMU students union head demands central placement cell

Aligarh: Newly elected students union president of Aligarh Muslim University has demanded the AMU authorities to establish a central placement cell and provide career counseling to the students. Mr. Syed Sharique Ahmad made the demand in his first speech after the election while addressing the installation ceremony of the new union on Friday.

He also demanded that the students’ representation at the Academic Council should also be facilitated. Mr. Ahmad said that the dining halls need improvement and the standard of food supplied to students also should be made better. He also pointed out that the University Health Service needs to be overhauled and better health facilities should be ensured for the students.


The installation ceremony of newly elected Students’ Union of Aligarh Muslim University was held at Kennedy Auditorium. The officiating Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jawaid Akhtar presided over the program.

Students Union leader further said that the student community should have a single voice, since their objective is same. He said that difference of opinion is our democratic right and it shows that we are live. He said that Students’ Union is a symbol of collective life of the students of this University and provides a medium for intellectual and socio-cultural exposition. It is this platform that has produced a number of great demagogues, politicians and leaders who scaled new heights of success in public life.

The Vice President of AMUSU, Mr. Abdul Qadir Jilani said he will make efforts that the students get better living and health facilities and big companies are invited to the University for campus placement of the students. He said that all courses should be run in a professional manner and infrastructure deficiencies should not take over our creative zeal.

Honorary Secretary of the Students’ Union, Mr. Hammad Nabi urged the University authorities to solve the residential problems of the students expeditiously facilitating them with best possible living and educational conditions. He urged the students to remain united and contribute to the development of the University. He said that the Students’ Union will work for the safeguarding of students’ interests.


Delivering the presidential address on this occasion, officiating Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jawaid Akhtar congratulated the newly elected chair and the cabinet. He said that the Students’ Union and the University authorities are complementary to each other and both depend on each other to take the University to new heights of success. He said both share the common goal; the welfare of students and development of our alma mater.

A large number of students and faculty members were present on this occasion. Chief Election Officer, Prof. Mahmood S. Khan congratulated the students for helping in the peaceful conduct of the Students’ Union election and observing the University traditions with respect and commitment.
