Thiruvananthapuram : It has been a year since four-time Kerala chief minister K. Karunakaran passed away but everything is as it was at his home Kalyani.

A year later, three of his personal aides still visit everyday. And the Congress veteran’s room at the home, now occupied by daughter Padmaja Venugopal, is also kept intact with his eyeglasses, clothes, bag and footwear kept as they were.

“We still have not got over the fact that he is no more. Somehow we feel his presence in this home so we make it a point to come here,” said his closest aide Manikandan.

The caretaker Padmakumar and the cook Ratnakaran continue to retain their jobs though Karunakaran is no more.

On his first death anniversary, posters of Karunakaran came up in several places in the state. The state government has allotted a plot in the heart of the city to erect a statue of the leader, who died at a Thiruvananthapuram hospital on Dec 23, 2010, at the age of 92.
