Ranchi : Based on a report by army doctors, former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda and one of his former cabinet colleagues were shifted to the Birsa Munda Central Prison from a Ranchi hospital Thursday night.
“Madhu Koda, former minister Bhanu Pratap Sahi and (businessman) Vijay Joshi were shifted to Ranchi jail Thursday night following a report by army doctors. The report says that Koda, Sahi and Joshi could be treated in the jail itself,” a source in Ranchi jail told IANS.
At the directive of the Jharkhand High Court, Koda, Sahi and Joshi — a business associate of Koda — were examined by a team of army doctors Wednesday. The army doctors’ report reached the jail authorities Thursday.
Koda was admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) after his right hand was fractured when he was allegedly beaten by prison guards in October. There were reports in the local media that Koda and Sahi were enjoying “total freedom” in the hospital. The high court ordered their examination by a medical team of the army in the wake of the media reports.
Talking to reporters while leaving for the hospital, Koda said: “I am not satisfied with the examination report of the army doctors. I am not safe in jail.”
Koda is in jail since October 2009 for involvement in graft cases.
