Islamabad : A doctor who was kidnapped was among the six people killed in a rescue operation mounted by the police in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
The shootout between the kidnappers and the police in Taxila left the doctor, a police officer, two abductors and their two female family members dead.
Azhar Hameed Khokar, a police official, said the pre-dawn shootout Thursday took place in a densely populated area in the old part of Taxila.
He said that location of the kidnappers who were holding Talal Sabir was found by monitoring the phone calls they made to negotiate their ransom demand of Rs.6 million, reported Dawn.
Sabir, 34, was abducted Dec 1.
Raja Hassan, a police official who was killed in the gun battle, received 19 bullet injuries.
Khokar said the kidnappers had shot Sabir through the neck before taking on the police.
He added that the gang had been using females to trap people.
