The president of People for Better Treatment (PBT), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Kunal Saha met Narayanan at Raj Bhavan here and submitted the memorandum of demands, which also includes establishment of an ‘honest and functional’ state medical council and justice to the families of AMRI Hospital fire victims.

“There is a huge backlog of medical negligence cases pending in various courts across the state and the city. There is an immediate need for a fast track court exclusively dealing with such cases so that they may be disposed of quickly,” Saha told reporters here.

“The governor (Narayanan) has assured me that he will look into the matter and take suitable steps to give justice to the people who have to suffer for long because of the negligence of the medical fraternity,” he said.

Saha, in wake of the city’s AMRI Hospital fire Tragedy Dec 9 which claimed 94 lives, had written a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seeking higher compensation for the victims’ families, and he reiterated his demand Friday.
