No chance of early elections in Pakistan: Gilani

By IANS,

Islamabad : Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has dismissed any chance of early polls and said the general elections would be held after the country’s parliament completes its tenure.

Gilani said Friday that the demand for early elections was the “old technique of the have-nots to become haves”, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

“However, we will act according to the constitution,” the prime minister said.

On cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party that was drawing huge crowds at political rallies, Gilani said: “Such parties are made overnight and come to their end overnight.”

He said the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was an “ideological” party and would not be affected by parties such as the PTI.

The prime ministers said the hue and cry for early polls was aimed at sabotaging the upcoming elections to the senate — the upper house of parliament — in March.
