Wajahat Habibullah to head National Minority Commission

New Delhi: After remaining headless for last five months, the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has finally got its chairperson. India’s first Chief Information Commissioner, Wajahat Habibullah, will take the charge of the minority panel on Thursday 3rd Feb. The Union cabinet took the decision on Tuesday.

A day before taking charge of the statutory body, 1968 batch IAS officer Mr. Habibullah today tried to downplay the impression that the Commission was practically a powerless and toothless body as for intervention on behalf of the minorities. He considers NCM as a body with a “certain degree of authority.”
