Egypt unrest: Pakistan to send special plane for citizens

Islamabad : Pakistan will send a special aircraft to Cairo to bring back its nationals, including tourists and some embassy staff, following the political upheaval in Egypt.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Tuesday directed the defence ministry to dispatch a special aircraft to Cairo to bring back the families and non-essential staff of Pakistan embassy and all Pakistani nationals, including some stranded tourists.

Gilani told the foreign ministry to arrange the required logistics for ensuring that all Pakistani national’s were evacuated from Egypt, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

Around 200 Pakistan nationals are likely to be airlifted from Egypt to Pakistan on the special flight in the coming days.

There has been an uprising in Egypt against Hosni Mubarak, who has ruled for nearly 30 years. The first protests began Jan 25 and quickly snowballed into a massive movement that is determined to oust the octogenarian.

Several countries, including neighbour India, have already arranged for special flight to evacuate their nationals.
